Building 7124 UPDATE

UNDER CONSTRUCTION
This is an update on the sprinkler system installation in the main building.  As the first two phases are complete, the next steps are being planned and will begin soon.   The summary to date is as follows.

First Floor – Phases 1 and 2

• Completion of the phase 1 installation of sprinklers is near, with inspections passed last week
• Final completion of the renovations, painting, ceilings, etc is near on first floor old wing (phase 2)
• Carpeting arrived as scheduled late last week, and is being installed in offices on old wing, first floor today.  This will continue through about Wednesday
• Once carpet is installed, final details will be taken care of this week.
• Final cleanup of first floor, old wing is scheduled for completion by Friday of this week (June 20)
• Assignments for moving will be completed this week, to allow for moving back into the first floor old wing next week.

Second Floor – Phases 3 and 4

• The plumbing of the main sprinkler lines is underway on the second floor, newer wing (phase 3).  That work will continue for some time, with some dust and noise disruption to be expected in this phase.  Rooms will not need to be vacated in phase, and advance warning of work in labs and offices of this phase will be given to allow for covering equipment, etc.
• The demolition of ceilings, lighting and upper structure will be scheduled in the old wing, 2nd floor to being once the occupants are moved out of this area.  Obviously, those moves can’t begin until the first floor is complete (more details below).
• All occupants of the old wing, second floor will need to be relocated to allow for demolition, installation of fire sprinkler system, and renovation.

Summarizing, during this week, final details on first floor will be completed and plans for moving out of old wing, second floor will be discussed with affected individuals.  We hope this can go as smoothly as possible. 

As we did in the first floor relocation, we will discuss room assignments and ask for assistance from the Maintenance folks to assist in moving furniture and heavy equipment.
